Week 2 - Social Media

Ever end up at the gym and forget your iPod? Well, no more worries because we are teaming up Apple, the creator of the iPod, with Champion apparel to come up with a brand new active wear line with installed iPods. The new line will include shorts, training bras and tank tops, and sweatpants. These various pieces of apparel will come in a variety of bright colors to give your daily work out an extra kick of fun! People will be able to choose what music they would like on their iPod by simply downloading it to a sleek memory card and inserting it into a designated pouch on their clothing.
Social media is going to be huge in the process of introducing and promoting this new line. It is gonna be crucial to set up a facebook fan "like" page for this line as well as creating lots of "tweets" on twitter so that people are aware of this new product. The unveiling of this line will be revealed on facebook by the creation of their own fan page, but once it is introduced, twitter will keep fans updated on more and more insider details. Most of the suspense, however, will be kept until the big day when the line is actually introduced in stores.
The first retail giant to carry this line will be Target. So together, we will have Apple, Champion, and Target working together to carry out the promotion of this new line. Therefore, big news of the release of this line will also be featured on the Apple, Champion, and Target facebook fan page. The marketing and PR team will also make sure that there is a presence on Twitter for the introduction of this new line when the time comes. Since social media has become such a popular and effective medium to promote and advertise new products, there will be no formal advertisements featured anywhere until the line is actually released. This will demonstrate the strong impact that social media will have on this new line.

  1. I think the idea of integrating an MP3 player type device is something that a lot of people would be interested in. A couple considerations that i think you should think about are: perhaps you don't need to team up with Apple as they are pretty resistant to those types of partnerships and maybe you want to look to some of the smaller music player companies. This isn't a deal killer, just a suggestion. Also - you should look into how you would make it so that the clothing was still washable with the electronics in it. I think you are on the right track, these are just some suggestions to get you thinking about the long term implementation of the idea.

  2. I think this is a very intriguing idea. I am always forgetting everything, and my iPod is definitely no exception. Although, I am wondering if I would remember to place the memory card into my clothing. Although, how would the clothing be washed? I think that maybe if there was "special" directions on how to wash the clothing, that this might pose a barrier for customers to buy the product. I think that if these obstacles can be avoided you have a awesome product/idea! (As a side note, I am curious as to how you would be able to listen to your device using the small memory chip.)

  3. I think this idea is very creative and it's something people would look foward to. This clothing line will help everyone to enjoy their workout more conveniently. They don't have to worry about carrying it around or buying accessories to help them attach it to their arm as they run. It's simple and very convenient. The only problem would be.. where would they plug their earphones? or is it speakers? I know washing issue was brought up but what about the weather? If it starts to rain, does it affect the memory card slot on the clothing?

Other than minor problems, I think this would be a great clothing line for atheltic people. I also really like the idea of trying to market the product through social media. Another option could be to get professional athletes to make a televison commercial to promote how convenient this product is. I was wondering if the songs were shuffled or if there is an option or screen to choose the songs? I guess the design wise it has huge potential to grow. And I think the idea itself is very creative.

  4. I think this is an awesome idea!I am always forgetting everything and I think a lot of other people do to. One thing that i thought of when I read this was it kind of sounds like you are focusing more on women with the type of clothing you are putting out and the different colors, that's is just something I got from it. Another thing is the chip, I think that would be really cool and neat, but what about when people go to wash it and if you can take it out what if people forget the chip the next time they wear it? Just a few things to think about but I really like this idea!!

  5. Hello Esther.
Connecting work out clothing with various entertainment devices like an iPod or mp3 is indeed a smart idea. I can't even count the times when I go to the gym and hate bringing my iPod along because it's too heavy or bulky to fit in my pant pocket. I know that there are other things out there like the built in iPod stand for some ellipticals and even the arm bands for iPod nano's/shuffles, but I personally prefer not to carry something so large like a regular-sized iPod or iTouch.

One niche to also consider is where the headphones will plug in. Although the memory card can transfer data from an iPod or mp3 to the sleeve of a garment, how will users be able to hear their music? I'm just throwing that thought out there for consideration. Other than that, I think this is awesome! Social media will definitely be a key factor in promoting this product as well. Thanks for sharing!

  6. I think that this is an amazing idea because I am always forgetting everything including my ipod. However, knowing my luck I would probably forget to take the chip out of my clothes or put it into the outfit I am wearing since it is smaller then the ipod itself. Also, how will the person be able to listen to the music if the music is connected to the clothes. Other then that I think that this is a great idea and that you should continue progressing with this. Also, I like your idea of using facebook to first promote it but keeping it updated with twitter I think that it is a good use of all social media websites

  7. I think this is a great, inventive idea for the future. Do you know if this will be hard to do? I could love to buy your product. I am always forgetting my ipod when I go to the gym and it sucks because then I am at the gym without anything to listen to. This product will make exercising so much easier. I am wondering how the person will listen to the music while wearing the clothes. Can others next to them listen too? This is a very interesting product! Keep it up!
